Gurbani Kirtan
Listening to beautiful Gurbani Kirtan, the sacred musical tradition of the Sikh Gurus, has been an important part of Sikh practice for hundreds of years. Through the power of sound, melody, rhythm, and sacred words, Gurbani Kirtan uplifts consciousness, opens the heart, and creates a direct experience of the Divine.
People from all backgrounds and faiths travel from around the world to listen to Gurbani Kirtan at Sri Harmandir Sahib (the Golden Temple) in Amritsar. The hymns of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib were revealed to be sung rather than merely spoken or read. They are organized according to specific musical forms known as ragas, each carrying its own mood, feeling, and spiritual atmosphere.
For Sikhs, Gurbani Kirtan is much more than devotional music. It is a living spiritual practice through which the wisdom of the Gurus is experienced through sound. Whether listening, singing, or simply sitting in its presence, Gurbani Kirtan offers a profound opportunity for reflection, inspiration, and connection with the Divine.
As part of the Guru Prasad Yatra, participants will have the opportunity not only to listen to Gurbani Kirtan in some of the most sacred Sikh places, but also to learn directly from Kirit Singh, a respected teacher and practitioner of this tradition.
